Week 16 Day 4

Dear, Future Me Grade s chool has been a wild ride. From being friends with everybody, to feeling entirely alone, and now where I feel like I am friends with only genuine people. I learned so much: I learned about America and the rest of the world, Math and science; I even learned about myself and others. However, I have been enveloped into a single lifestyle – the American childhood.  I know that there is so much more out there to do, see, and live. Sure, I made district and almost state in the science fair. Sure, I won a scholarship for musical prospect. Sure, I have mastered the English language, and sure, I am thoroughly educated in both the historical and contemporary world. However, I believe that my past accomplishments are mundane in comparison to what I am capable of in the future. I know what I want to do and I have the means to doing so. Luckily, for me, life is a sandbox. I CAN be that intercontinental musical sensation. I can be an incredible singer. I can learn...

Week 16 Day 3

In class, we made a poem in structure of William Carlos Williams. I made my poem branching off of a poem I made this same morning with the day cycle. The perspective is that of a traumatized person. The person went through "the night" and is now feeling the hope of the morning, but is still hesitant to open up to the world and let the light in. Once the afternoon came around, the person finally let go and fully trusted that the sun would stay. However, night came back and the sun abandoned the person's trust and, seeing that the person was already traumatized, it is assumed that the person will never have hope again.

Week 16 Day 2

We went over more William Carlos Williams poems today. He explores many themes in such a minimalistic manner. I like how his poetry assumes the reader's purpose of reading to be expanding and analyzing minimalism. I believe it sets him out from other poets and is why he is so popular.

Week 16 Day 1

In class, we read the red wheelbarrow. This poem focused on sensory details to portray an image and theme. I have done poetry like this and I plan on doing more. I enjoy how much poetry we go over in this course.

Week 15 Day 2

Living off of minimum wage is a grueling and sometimes even impossible task. Today, the assignment was to calculate a realistic budget of someone's living expenses off of minimum wage and 40 hour work weeks. The results showed that there would be no left over money and it all would be necessary to make a living.

Week 15 Day 1

A woman in this documentary is living off of seven dollars an hour and receiving unideal hours at work. She relies heavily on the government for living and is on the verge of homelessness. She could be in a better positioning with budgeting, but the root problem spans further than her own ability to control her circumstances.

Week 14 Day 1

In class, we did a newsela on the poor disposal aspect of the shoe industry. Shoes seem to be very bad for the environment considering what they are made of and their short use span.
